PRESIDENT MUSTAFA AKINCI: “I WISH MY YOUNG FRIENDS A PRODUCTIVE AND SUCCESSFUL EDUCATION LIFE IN THE HEART OF NICOSIA”
The American University of Cyprus (AUC) held the opening ceremony of 2016-2017 Academic Year. President Mustafa Akıncı was the “Guest of Honour” of the first day of the new academic year which has the main theme of “Woman and Life”.
President Akıncı, who explained that protecting historical texture of Nicosia Walled City, keeping its values alive and reconstructing it should not be considered as a physical situation, stated that “It is not an issue only limited to reconstructing the buildings, we need to bring them to life. As a former Mayor of Nicosia, I would like to express my appreciation for having such a value in Nicosia, Walled City. Logo of the University explains everything; it is a symbol of this value, I can see the Walls of Nicosia and The Kyrenia Door in the logo. Especially, having a Fine Arts faculty which contains architecture within itself is a significant contribution that I hope will provide important successes and great benefits for Girne American University and its sister establishment, the American University of Cyprus.”
Minister of Education and Culture Dr. Özdemir Berova, Founding Rector of AUC Serhat Akpınar and Deputy of UBP (National Unity Party) Izlem Gurcag who gave the first lecture of the new academic year themed as “Woman and Life” participated in the academic ceremony of AUC which hosted by the students and academicians of AUC and organized in The Arabahmet Culture and Arts Centre, Nicosia.

PRESIDENT MUSTAFA AKINCI: “I WISH MY YOUNG FRIENDS A PRODUCTIVE AND SUCCESSFUL EDUCATION LIFE IN THE HEART OF NICOSIA”
President Akıncı, who was the “Guest of Honour” in the Opening Ceremony of 2016-2017 Academic Year, answered one of the questions of the journalists: “Every new day is a new excitement and every new opening creates a different emotion in the academic world. First of all, I would like to address the young; I wish them a productive and successful education life in this historical texture, the Walled City, which I consider as the heart of Nicosia. I hope that in the future, they make the most of the information and experience gained in this place and believe that they will experience very successful years in this beautiful historical environment. Additionally, I consider Girne American University as a deep-rooted establishment; 32 years are considerable period of time and wish many successful years to The American University of Cyprus.”
