The American Future College Celebrates Domestic Goods Week
Berova, “We preserve our country’s domestic values to the future; to the children”
The American Future College, a branch of Girne American University (GAU) Group of Schools states the importance of domestic goods with Domestic Goods Week. Head of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Özdemir Berova participated in this event.
At all schools, the Domestic Goods Week, which is celebrated between 12th-18th December, is also known as, “Saving, Investment and Domestic Goods Week”, giving it the importance it deserves and supporting domestic goods being produced with the aim of spreading the uses. It is noted that a week of ongoing events, which will give knowledge to the children about native goods and lessons at which children can apply their own ideas, will take place.
Dr. Özdemir Berova - The Minister of National Education visited the sellers and spoke to the children during the event and in a brief speech he said: “traditional taste and touch of domestic goods must be passed to the next generation without change”.
Related to this subject, College Principal - Sevim Kayıkcı said “ A person’s consumption habits and adopting saving concepts begin from childhood, with this truth by organising events and practices for a week, students will understand what domestic goods mean, help them with the concept of how they are identified, protect them, save them and guide students to spread this knowledge. As The American Future College we are giving our domestic goods to the future, to the children.
During the Domestic Goods Week, students of The American Future College gained knowledge about native tastes by shopping from the domestic good market set up specifically for the event. It was possible to taste domestic foods and parents showed great interest in the markets set up in the college yard.
Stands which were promoting domestic goods also promoted domestic hand-made goods. Traditional hand-made goods such as wicker chairs, sestu production, ceramics, silk cocoon work, and shoe production also took place in promoting domestic goods.
As making chairs attracted the students’ attention they learned how to make wicker chairs from the masters. They gained detailed information about the materials and fabrics used. Students were very interested. At the events which included the participation of the parents, students read poems in domestic clothing. With the addition of Cyprus Songs all students had an exciting day.
